Heart attack
Usually this means "myocardial infarction", ie a coronary thrombosis blocking a coronary artery so that part of the working heart muscle dies, causing death or scarring. This can be a cause of sudden death due to the heart stopping. However, sudden death from the heart stopping can have other causes. Find out more about other causes from the British Heart Foundation.
