QUESTIONS & ANSWERS: GLOSSARY

Fibrinogen

Soluble blood protein which forms a solid clot when converted to fibrin at the end of the coagulation cascade. Activated platelets bind to fibrinogen to form platelet-rich thrombus in coronary thrombosis. In some surveys, it was found that people with high levels of fibrinogen in the blood were more likely to develop coronary heart disease.
